At the beginning of May, I distilled Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna). I had already been making teas and tinctures from its fruits and blossoms, but this was my first time capturing its essence as an aromatic water (hydrosol). I felt a calling from this magical tree, and even though it breaks my heart to pick its flowers, I trust that Hawthorn shares its gift with those in need.

• Hawthorn is also connected to death and the Otherworld, as it is believed to stand at the threshold between realms.
• Known as the Fairy Tree, Hawthorn is believed to be guarded by fairies who live within or beneath its branches.
